Remember Me – Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection

To mark the bicentenary of the invention of photography, the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection presents Remember Me, a major exhibition devoted to the medium. Around 700 works by more than 70 artists are drawn from the collection, shown for the first time in this breadth.

Rather than following a chronology, the exhibition unfolds like a fugue, setting genres and eras in unexpected dialogue. Nineteenth-century pioneers such as Gustave Le Gray and Julia Margaret Cameron meet Man Ray, Dorothea Lange, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Nan Goldin, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Francesca Woodman, alongside contemporary artists including Cindy Sherman, Wolfgang Tillmans and Zanele Muholi.

Curated by Matthieu Humery and Lola Regard, the exhibition explores photography’s close bond with memory and time. For Humery, photography is above all about “not forgetting”.

The title comes from a work by Barbara Kruger, who also presents an installation in the museum’s Rotunda and display cases this autumn. Go to Website
