Agnès Jennepin

Visual Artist

Bringing out a world, creating... Agnès Jennepin's works are the result of a long process, the meticulous work of a lace-maker. Incisions, samplings, rubbings, effleurages - but always in a process of erasure - sketch out a universe of grafts and hatchings from which emerge hybridizations blending the plant, animal and human, as well as the aerial, terrestrial and aquatic worlds. On canvas, paper, glass or earthenware, the background material is altered by a number of tools and complex processes to extract from the surface motifs that express a different history of art. A new space emerges, woven of superimpositions and metamorphoses.

Le Monde du silence

In the series Le Monde du silence (The World of Silence), I create a world that we instinctively associate with the seabed, from which it takes its movement, colours and certain real elements. Woven together by superimpositions and metamorphoses, I sketch out a personal universe from which hybridisations emerge, blending plant, animal and human elements, the air, land and water, breaking down all boundaries.
I reveal invisible interactions, erasing them to make this fascinating world perceptible by illustrating a semi-oniric narrative.

Under its Wing

In the series Under Its Wing, a world is formed, hidden, and transformed to explore the poetic tensions between protection and flight through the symbolic figures of the bird, the wing, and the cocoon.
Agnès Jennepin weaves a sensitive dialogue between the fragile and the powerful — the wing that envelops as much as it protects, the flight that liberates but requires renunciation, the delicate cocoon that ensures emergence.
The artist’s confident mastery of the gesture of erasure on glass, of light touches and blurring, reveals a silent presence, a voluntary withdrawal — a space to breathe, allowing for a three-dimensional perception.
Under Its Wing is an invitation to immerse oneself in hushed intimacy — a suspended space.
